Mr. Pedro
Questions
Everything to know about acquiring a work, commissioning one, and caring for it.
Buying a work
Is each work one of a kind?
Yes. Every work is unique, made once and never reproduced or editioned. Each bears the artist's weld stamp, the PLT bead found on every piece.
How do I acquire a work?
Select Inquire on the work's page. Mr. Pedro replies with availability, price and delivery details.
Why are prices not listed?
Prices are shared on request. Each work has one fixed price, the same for every buyer.
What does "Private collection" mean?
The work has been acquired and is no longer available. Mr. Pedro welcomes commissions in a similar spirit.
Do you work with designers, architects and art consultants?
Yes. Acquisitions and commissions can be coordinated directly with your designer or advisor.
Commissions
How does a commission work?
- Consultation. A conversation about the space, the scale, the light and the story you want the work to carry.
- Design and materials. Sketches and material selections, presented for your approval. A 50% deposit begins the build.
- Fabrication. The work is made by hand in the studio in Greater Houston.
- Delivery. The balance is due on completion, before delivery. The work arrives with its signed certificate of authenticity.
What should I share to begin?
Photos and measurements of the space, whether it is indoors or outdoors, an approximate size, preferred materials, your timeframe, any reference images, and the story or occasion behind the piece.
How long does a commission take?
It depends on scale and complexity. The timeline is agreed in writing at the design stage.
How is a commission priced?
Each commission is priced to its design, scale and materials, and quoted once the design is defined.
Can the design change once the build begins?
Changes are agreed before fabrication starts. Changes after that may affect the timeline and cost.
Do you accept public art and large-scale commissions?
Yes. Mr. Pedro has been welding since 2005, over 20 years of hands-on work, including large structural fabrication as a professional welder and fitter. See Public and large-scale.
Payment and terms
What are the terms?
Commissions begin with a 50% deposit once the design is approved. The balance is due on completion, before delivery. Delivery, crating, installation, insurance and travel are itemized separately.
Is the deposit refundable?
Yes, until materials are ordered or 48 hours after payment, whichever comes first.
How can I pay?
Wire transfer, ACH, cashier's check or credit card.
When will I hear back?
Mr. Pedro reads every inquiry and replies personally.
Delivery and installation
Do you deliver and install?
Yes, within Greater Houston. Outside the area, works travel crated by fine art shipping at the client's cost.
Do you ship outside the United States?
Yes. International shipping is at the client's cost, or the work can be hand-delivered with travel covered by the client. Some hardwoods may require export paperwork, which the studio will advise on.
Can a work be placed outdoors?
Indoor finishes are not weather finishes. Outdoor placement, including covered patios and pool decks, starts with a conversation about an outdoor-rated finish.
Care and authenticity
What comes with a work?
A certificate of authenticity, signed by the artist at the time of sale, with a number unique to that work. It records the title, year, materials, dimensions and a photograph of the work.
How do I care for a work?
Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth or soft brush. Skip polishes, sprays, oils and household cleaners, and never use steel wool or scrubbing pads. Keep the piece indoors in air conditioning, out of direct sun, and away from vents, fireplaces, bathrooms and spills.
How do I care for tables and functional pieces?
Use coasters and trivets on wood and resin. Clean glass tops with a microfiber cloth, spraying cleaner onto the cloth rather than near the base. To move a piece, lift by the base with two people and take any glass top off first.
Will the wood change color?
Yes, gradually. Padauk and purpleheart mellow toward brown, walnut may lighten, and ebony stays black; direct sun speeds the change. This is part of its character.
What if a work is damaged?
For rust spots, scratches, cracks or worn finish, contact the studio before attempting any repair. Mr. Pedro can confirm your piece's exact finish and advise.
Visiting the studio
Can I see a work in person?
Yes. Studio visits in Greater Houston are by appointment. Request one through the inquiry form.
